The Sidewalk
Read the story of Vicki Klein, a woman who devotes her life to counseling women on the sidewalk outside of Planned Parenthood in Mobile, Ala. "A light drizzle falls from the gray sky as Vicki Klein walks along the crooked sidewalk, bundled up in her raincoat and scarf to stay warm on the chilling January afternoon. She reaches the end of the sidewalk and turns around, retracing her steps once again for what might be the hundredth time today. The sidewalk has uncut grass on one side and a parking lot on the other, filled with seven cars. Hundreds protest future abortion clinic
This was a story written for the Clarion Herald Newspaper for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and covered the NOLA Needs Peace gathering outside of the new Planned Parenthood being built. "In a city notorious for its love of music, food and life, death of the unborn is becoming a fear for many New Orleanians. In response to this threat, the NOLA Needs Peace coalition hosted a rally May 20 at the site of the future Planned Parenthood abortion clinic on South Claiborne Avenue." |
A Catholic female espouses authentic feminism
This opinion column for the Clarion Herald Young Adult section discusses a view of modern day femininity. "The problem arose with the false dichotomy of modern-day feminism and the pollution of the movement’s goals. The problem was magnified when society began telling women that birth control is liberating, and chastity is only for men in clerical collars. And, unfortunately, the problem peaked with the notion that abortion is the best option for a woman facing a crisis pregnancy. Let's live it out
This column was written while I was co editor-in-chief of the SpringHillian newspaper, the weekly publication at Spring Hill College. I called for the school to remember their mission statement as a Catholic Institution. "Now before I catch myself rattling off statistics and facts about Planned Parenthood, let me reiterate a part of our Mission Statement: “We strive to awaken mind and spirit to the ever-deepening appreciation of the... dignity of life.” Now you can disagree with me, but if I know the Catholic Church at all, I’m pretty sure that means respecting life from conception until natural death. Just look in Blessed Pope John Paul II’s encyclical Evangelium Vitae. The Catholic Church is pretty darn vocal about its opposition to abortion. And if the church is against abortion, wouldn’t it seem obvious that they would oppose Planned Parenthood, who alone performed 329, 445 abortions in 2010? I’ve heard the arguments that Planned Parenthood is not just about abortions. Planned Parenthood provides people with affordable health care services. Planned Parenthood helps people. Well that’s great. I love helping people. Huge fan. However, is there really any amount of good that can justify an inherent evil?" |
